Arctic Mission Adventure
Bethel is one of the largest communities in western Alaska. It lies inside the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge, the largest wildlife refuge in the United States. It is an administrative and transportation hub for the 56 villages in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. At its original location, Bethel was an Alaska Commercial Company trading post during the late 1800's. Because of erosion of the riverbank, Bethel was moved to its present location around the year 1900. The current population is approximately 5,500.
The Bethel church, shown at left, has been in existence since the mid-eighties. It is a nice ethnic mix with about 15 or so in attendance each Sabbath. There is a comfortable three bedroom parsonage above the church.
We are looking for a dedicated missionary couple to provide Lay-Pastoral leadership as well as outreach to the surrounding villages. While the lay-pastoral appointment it is a volunteer position, there are numerous career opportunities in Bethel with openings in the health-field, teaching and government sectors.
